Shelf Clock, circa 1810
Significant for
its state of preservation and superb
proportions, this shelf clock was made by
William Cummens (1768-1834), one of Simon Willard's
early apprentices.
It is further enhanced
by the choice of exceptional woods
throughout and retains what appears
to be the first surface.
- Note the extraordinary
dial with Arabic numerals
- at the quarter
hours and the gold band
around the outer edge, both reminiscent of the
- first generation
of banjo clocks made by Simon Willard.
It retains 2 of
its original brass finials.
34 ½"
tall including finial, 13 ½" by 6 ½"
at the base.
